In Platykambos Larissa, the biomass is converted through gasification into syngas, which is then led for combustion in an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), thus converting into electrical and thermal energy through the electricity generator.

Biomass gasification is an endothermic thermal process through which solid biomass is converted into a combustible gas.

About 4,500 tonnes of straw from corn, wheat and cotton residues are converted into pellets and produce 3.5 million kWh of electricity on an annual basis.

The energy produced can supply about 8,000 households with electricity and about 500 households with thermal energy.

Gasification offers significant advantages, given that it converts a traditional low-quality fuel into a high-quality gaseous fuel. This conversion provides very high efficiency and its effects throughout the process are significant.
